Duramax Makes 397 hp,765 lb-ft And Goes Biodiesel
Bring on the power and biodiesel! The Duramax 6.6L in the '11 Silverado and Sierra HDs (as well as the Express and Savana) will be compatible with a 20 percent blend of the juice, or as the hipsters say, B20, or as the geeksters say, 20 percent biodiesel, 80 percent diesel. To make this compatibility happen, GM's engineers upgraded the Duramax's seals and gasket materials, increased heating of the fuel circuit to lessen the likelihood of fuel gelling or waxing, and added a ninth injector eliminating the in-cylinder regeneration mode. But the biggest news is that the new Duramax's power ratings have eclipsed Ford's and Dodge's: The LML version of the engine that will go on sale this summer will be rated at 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque!

Question: How many turbodiesel engines has Cummins made for Chrysler since a 5.9L first appeared in a Ram in 1989? Answer: more than 1.7 million, and growing. Cummins and Chrysler have added a multiyear extension to an existing contract for 6.7L diesels for the Ram HDs and chassis-cab trucks.
